HNU Hosts Discussion on Poverty Alleviation Based on Featured Cultural Industry

The 7thNational Poverty Relief Day was marked on October 17, 2020. The 5thSpecial Cultural Industry Summit Forum, also the Intangible Heritage (Cultural and Creative) Poverty Alleviation Alliance Exchange Meeting, opened in Huaihua, Hunan that day. The forum theme was “Farewell to Poverty and Build a Well-off Society in an All-round Way”.

More than 80 attendees, including experts and scholars from over 40 institutions and grassroots representatives from Shibadong Village and other rural regions, discussed on innovative ways to boost featured cultural industry development andrural revitalization.

Lei Shaoye, deputy secretary of the CPC Huaihua Municipal Committee and Huaihua mayor, and Wang Weibin, standing committee member of the CPC HNU Committee and HNU vice president, were present and addressed the opening ceremony.

Wang presented HNU’s progress in targeted poverty alleviation and the origin of the Intangible Heritage (Cultural and Creative) Poverty Alleviation Alliance. Huaihua, a major target of poverty alleviation in Wuling Mountain area, has cooperated with HNU for long. Vice President Wang, on behalf of the alliance, invited higher learning institutions, experts, and scholars present at the meeting to jointly create intangible cultural heritage brands, and construct intangible cultural heritage and innovation platforms for poverty-stricken areas. He advocated to make concerted efforts to contribute to achieve a decisive victory in poverty alleviation and rural revitalization.

The event was hosted by HNU, Communication University of China (CUC), Huaihua Economic Development Zone, and China National Festival Committee; and, undertaken by HNU School of Design, CUC Collaborative Innovation Center, and JD Cloud & AI. It included keynote speeches, three sub-forums, and on-site communication, which were livestreamed online. Experts and scholars in culture, design, education, and industry exchanged views on building a well-off society in an all-round way, and innovative development of featured cultural industry.

The attendees visited HNU’s “New Channel” Design and Social Innovation Base in Tongdao Dong Autonomous County after the meeting, and toured Wenpo Village in Yatunbao Town, and Huangdu Village in Pingtan Township.
