The International Joint Research Center for Building Safety and Environment, a national international science and technology cooperation base for the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, was established at Hunan University on December 15, 2013. It is seen as the most glorious gift for the university on its 110th anniversary of the College of Civil Engineering, Hunan University.
The research center is committed to the research on building safety, energy conservation, and environment, such as protection of comprehensive building safety, equipment of energy conservation and new energy, building environment, and monitoring and control of building performance. In recent years, the college has carried out talent cultivation and scientific research programs with many international institutions of higher learning, research institutes, and enterprises from Europe, America, Australia, etc., greatly enhancing its international exchange and influence.
On behalf of Hunan University, University of Rome La Sapienza, and University of California Davis, Dean of the College of Civil Engineering Xiao Yan announced to the media the establishment of the organizing committee of the First Concrete Dragon Boat Tournament for College Students. Both domestic and international college students will be invited for the competition. The tournament will serve as an international platform to spread Chinese customs of the Dragon Boat Festival and promote Huxiang culture.
