
The First Huxiang Culture and Ba-Shu Culture Symposium was inaugurated on Dec. 1 in Yuelu Academy, Hunan University. The two-day symposium gathered over 50 influential scholars in Huxiang culture and Ba-Shu culture (mostly seen in nowadays Sichuan Province) from universities in Hunan and Sichuan, to communicate and discuss about the development and forms of Huxiang culture and Ba-shu culture in Chinese civilization process.
Discussions were focused on contributions of the two culture branches to Chinese culture, studies on Xiang School (Hunanese academic thoughts and academic thoughts and culture originated from Hunan region) and Shu School, and development and exchanges of Hunan culture and Ba-Shu culture in Chinese history.
HNU vice president Zhang Qiang attended and presided over the opening ceremony.
The Huxiang Culture and Ba-shu Culture Symposium is jointly proposed by Hunan University, Sichuan University, Southwest University for Nationalities and Xiangtan University, and hosted by these universities in turn. The next session will be held in 2013 in Southwest University for Nationalities.
