A Hunan University Rural Revitalization Design Achievements Exhibition, themed Hunan Village Construction, opened at the China Academy Museum in Yuelu Academy on June 26, 2021. It is co-hosted by School of Architecture,Design and Research Institute, and Yuelu Academy. It will open until July 26.
A number of planning, landscape, and architectural design works by the teachers, students, and designers of School of Architecture and School of Design in the past decade are on display. Ancient village protection and ancient architecture renovation programs are included. The exhibition showcases HNU’s fruitful practices in promoting rural revitalization
Chen Wei, deputy secretary of the CPC HNU Committee, Xiao Yongming, dean of Yuelu Academy, Tan Gangyi, deputy dean of School of Architecture and Urban Planning of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), and Wei Chunyu, dean of HNU School of Architecture, addressed the opening ceremony. Xu Feng, dean of HNU School of Architecture, presided over the ceremony.
Deputy Secretary Chen stressed significance of rural revitalization.There will be no national rejuvenation without a thriving countryside. Chen said that we are at the stage where targeted poverty alleviation and rural revitalization dovetail, HNU faculties and students have made concerted efforts, and achieved remarkable outcomes. This exhibition is held to celebrate the 100thfounding anniversary of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Chen added that, holding the exhibition at Yuelu Academy is to respond to President Xi Jinping’s expectation, and also provide a platform of mutual learning and exchange for rural construction experts. He hoped this exhibition will do a good job in explanation and promotion, to contribute to build HNU into a world-class university with profound historic and cultural traditions and Chinese characteristics.
Twelve experts and professors gave lectures on modern architecture creation in Hunan’s rural villages, traditionalsettlements and dwellings in Hunan, rural complex in Hunan villages, and new buildings in new countryside. Scholars from Central South University, Changsha University of Science and Technology, Hunan University of Science and Technology, Hunan City University, and Hunan Institute of Science and Technology, and other attendees exchanged views.
The exhibition helps deepen public recognition of the achievements of HNU School of Architecture and the Design and Research Institute in new countryside construction, poverty alleviation, and rural revitalization. It also facilitates exchanges and collaboration among scholars in rural construction field. In the future, the School of Architecture and the Design and Research Institute will leverage their advantages as higher educational institutions, and their research characteristics and practices, to create more outstanding rural construction models for the country.
