HNU, working together with the Suzhou Institute of Systems Medicine (ISMS) of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CCDC), published a paperGenome Composition and Divergence of the Novel Coronavirus(2019-nCoV) Originating in Chinaon international academic journalCell Host & Microbe.
The paper gives an in-depth annotation of the newly discovered coronavirus (COVID-19) genome and reveals difference between COVID-19 and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) or SARS-like coronaviruses.
The main authors contributed equally are: Wu Aiping, researcher of ISMS; Peng Yousong, associate professor of HNU College of Biology; Huang Baoying, researchers of CCDC; and, Ding Xiao, associate researcher of ISMS.
Genome composition and phylogenetic tree for COVID-19
A systematic comparison identified 380 amino acid substitutions between these coronaviruses, which may have caused functional and pathogenic divergence of COVID-19.
